Congratulations on becoming a DU Pioneer!

We are excited to welcome you to campus in August!

Our website for new students—www.du.edu/newundergraduates—will be an excellent resource for you throughout the summer. The International Students Tab will be especially helpful and will provide important information for you and your parents.

We will be sending you updates through monthly e-newsletters until you arrive on campus. Features will include items that need to be completed and fun articles about life at DU. They will also include information on some of the amazing opportunities that our current students are taking advantage of.

Please feel free to contact the Office of International Student Admission for further assistance prior to your arrival on campus. We can’t wait to personally welcome you to the DU community!

Laptops at DU
All DU students are required to bring a laptop to campus. Make sure your laptop meets our technical requirements.

Submit Pioneer Card Photo Online
You can avoid long lines during Discoveries Orientation by submitting your photo for your Pioneer ID online.

Parking Permit
If you choose to bring a car to campus, you will need to purchase a parking permit. These will be available beginning July 16. Visit the DU Parking & Transportation website for more information.

Immunization Records
Your Proof of immunity (pdf) must be submitted to the Health and Counseling Center by August 1.

Language Placement Exams
Students planning to take Spanish, French, German or Italian should take the Language Placement Exam before arriving on campus. Students planning to study Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Latin, Japanese and Russian will take their exam during Discoveries Orientation week.

Note: Students beginning at the English Language Center do not need to take the Language Placement Exam.

International Student and Scholar Services

Congratulations, once again, on your admission to the University of Denver! The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) looks forward to welcoming you to campus this fall. Each quarter, ISSS hosts an orientation for new international students. During this orientation, international student advisors and guest speakers will discuss a variety of topics to help you learn about maintaining your immigration status and creating and sustaining success in your academic program. For information on this fall’s mandatory International Student Orientation, please visit our website.

Students who have been English Conditionally Admitted (ECA) to the University of Denver and will begin at the English Language Center will not be attending International Student Orientation and can find more information on the English Language Center Orientation and testing dates on our downloadable calendar. If you have additional questions, please feel free to email us at elc@du.edu.

Academic commons - progress report

The Academic Commons at Penrose Library construction project has progressed from demolition to building and is on schedule with an expected opening in winter 2013!  The new facility, in the central campus location where Penrose Library was built in 1972, will essentially have a similar acre-size footprint as the original library, with a 20-foot extension on the south side being the only new space spanning all three floors.

Amelia Newport

Class of 2012

Senior Amelia Newport, history and English major, is an ardent scholar of Colorado history. Her research on Colorado's statehood and its connection to the Presidential election of 1876 earned her a spot to present her work in April at the annual conference of the Council on Undergraduate Research in Washington, DC. Presidential Debate at DU | Oct. 3, 2012DU will be hosting the first presidential debate on campus on Oct. 3, 2012! We are very excited and honored to have been chosen to host such a prestigious event, and there are many events leading up to the debate that we would like to share with you. DU students are the only members of our community who will have the opportunity to attend the debate, so visit our Debate 2012 website for the most up-to-date information—and make sure to watch in October!

The Kinetix is a band made up of former DU students. You can view their performance at last year’s TEDxDU—they brought down the house!

du bookstore

The campus bookstore offers textbook options to students—including used books, rentals and digital books.

coors fitness center

This summer, all incoming students are invited to join the Coors Fitness Center for the discounted rate of $40 (Gold Access) or $25 (Crimson Access) per month.  Not getting to Denver until this fall?  All full-time DU students receive free access to the Coors Fitness Center during academic quarters.  For additional information, please visit recreation.du.edu.

What is the study abroad experience like at DU?

At the University of Denver, we strive to develop cross-cultural connections, and the new perspectives that come with them, by encouraging students to study and live abroad for at least one quarter. We want our graduates to appreciate and understand the differences and interdependencies that characterize our world.

To foster an internationalized campus culture, DU has developed an infrastructure that makes study abroad efficient and affordable. Students on the Cherrington Global Scholars Program typically spend a quarter abroad and still meet all the requirements of their degree programs—on schedule and at no additional cost for tuition, room, and board.
